5 Reasons Our Students Are Grateful to Be at UNH
What are the best parts of being a UNH student? What are UNH students grateful for?
We're celebrating the season of feeling thankful by rounding up five reasons UNH students are grateful to be living and learning here at the University of New Hampshire.

1. The power of the UNH community
"My favorite fun memory from UNH was the solar eclipse (in spring 2024). Seeing the entire campus alive and so excited to watch the eclipse was heartwarming. Teachers cancelled classes or brought their students outside to watch. I thought this moment really brought the campus together and I will always remember it when I think of my time at UNH."

2. Career preparation
"UNH helped me prepare for my plans after graduation by setting me up for success. My classes and experiences at UNH made me feel confident entering the information technology (IT) field. Additionally, the Career and Professional Success (CaPS) office helped me prepare for interviews, looked over my resume, and gave me advice on navigating a full-time job offer."

3. My favorite dining hall meal
"My favorite dish is General Gau's chicken, which I get with fried rice or beef noodles. This is a fan favorite among my friends in the civil engineering department, and we all get very excited to use our meal swipes on this one! We’ll often check the weekly menu online (available for both Holloway Commons and Philbrook dining halls) and see if they are serving our favorites. On the days of my favorite meal, my favorite dessert is also served, so I’ll often grab a cookie cheesecake bar for the road."

4. Game-changing scholarships
"By providing me with funding during my school year, a summer internship, and guaranteed job placement after graduation, the SMART Scholarship has allowed me to fully focus on my education. It has relieved so much of the financial stress and future career uncertainty that accompanies college, allowing me to fully enjoy the rest of my UNH experience."

5. Exploring all my interests
"I came to UNH undeclared and I took Discovery Courses and electives in hopes of deciding on a career path, but life isn’t always that linear. As I experienced life outside of the classroom, my beliefs and experiences began to shape the way I viewed the world and that put quite the wrench in my plan to find the perfect major and stick with that career for the rest of my life. I ended up testing out five different majors through intro classes before I landed on geography. With five semesters of miscellaneous classes under my belt, I ended up with the sustainability dual major almost fully completed, as well."
