How to Get Involved in the Arts

Emily Kulp

Are you looking to continue an artistic hobby or start a new one in college? Are you looking for ways to perform at UNH?

Many UNH students participate in the performing arts, even if they do not choose to major or minor in the performing arts. There are plenty of ways to share your art through performance on our campus. From instrumental ensembles to dance to sketch comedy, follow along for five ways to get involved with the performance arts at UNH.

1. Instrumental ensembles

If you played an instrument in high school and want to continue to make music in college, there are lots of ways to do so at UNH. For music majors or those looking to perform at a high level, audition-based ensembles like the symphony orchestra and jazz bands are a good option. However, there are also groups for students looking to make music for fun, including the Wildcat Marching Band and the Beast of the East Pep Band, where students of all majors get together to make music and cheer on the UNH Wildcats.

2. Vocal ensembles

Do you love to sing and want to make friends while performing vocally on campus? All choirs at UNH are open to students of any major, offering performance opportunities, as well as strong community. UNH is also home to several a cappella groups that offer students both leadership roles in planning performances and the ability to sing with peers who share their love for music.

3. Theatre

You can join a rich tradition of theatre performance at UNH, either through theatre department productions or student organizations. Students can audition for upcoming productions in the theatre department. Additionally, the Mask and Dagger Dramatic Society is a student-run organization that provides students with the ability to plan, shape, and perform in plays, musicals, and cabarets throughout the school year.

4. Dance

UNH students can major or minor in dance. They can also join the UNH Dance Company, which produces major performances throughout the year. Students looking to cheer on their fellow Wildcats while continuing a love of dance can join the UNH Dance Team, which performs at UNH athletic events. Those looking to dance for fun while exploring different cultures can join the student-run Inter-cultural Dance Club.
