How I found my UNH reason(s)
During my senior year of high school, I toured a variety of college campuses, one of them being UNH. I was shocked by how much the school immediately resonated with me. Walking around, I could imagine myself in every corner of the campus. As my tour guide stopped us in front of the lawn at T-Hall, I had a striking realization: this is home.
Not only did the physical campus feel like a home away from home, but there were so many aspects of UNH that stood out to me during my college selection process. Some things that I valued when searching for colleges were the prestige of the business schools, the quality of the dining halls and the range of student life opportunities. UNH ticked off all those boxes. The university takes pride in its business school, Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, and it has been consistently ranked by Poets&Quants as one of the “Best Undergraduate Business Schools.” Along with this, each dining hall has won multiple awards, including three grand prize awards. There are also an abundance of student clubs and organizations and Wildcats love to get involved; we even have an annual event called University Day (UDay) where students can find organizations of interest on campus.
My reasons to choose UNH were pretty powerful, so I wanted to hear from some of my classmates and alums about their why behind saying yes to UNH.
Why current Wildcats and alums chose UNH
“I chose UNH because it basically had everything. Paul College is top tier, and I wouldn’t want to study anywhere else! The atmosphere of UNH (especially in the fall) is unbeatable. The campus is big but it’s all relatively in the same area with paths to get anywhere in 10 minutes or less. They were accommodating during COVID and I’m so glad I committed here!” -Gabrielle Bay ‘24.
“The campus feels friendly and inviting, and the distance from my house is not too close but not too far.”
-Kellie Giunti ‘23
“The good financial package that I got at the time and the perfect location; it’s close to lakes, mountains, and Boston. They also have a great hockey team and other D1 sports.”
-Noah Butensky, Alumnus
“Great location with a ton of surrounding resources, close to home, great research for STEM majors, welcoming environment, and a reputable school all together!”
-Amanda Twombly ’26.
“I loved the feeling of a college town and it felt like a home away from home.”
-Gabrielle Gentile ’23
“I was determined to be a nurse, and the top nursing program was at UNH. I chose the school when I was a freshman in high school and applied only to UNH early decision. I have been an RN since graduating in 1985!”
-Debbie Pilot, Alumna
“There was no English Literature major at the other schools I looked at and having that specific major and a strong liberal arts program was important to me. The academics here were also better than some of the other schools. Plus, I’ve always had a desire to come to New Hampshire.”
-Kayleigh Ferik ’25
“For me, it was mainly the campus and the size of it and how it kind of fit the ‘college campus vibe’ with all of its greenery.”
-Emily Davis ’23
“I am choosing UNH for this upcoming fall because of the awesome life science majors UNH has to offer! Mine is in zoology but I will also be eager to minor in marine biology as well! UNH’s location is also perfect in terms of being quite central in all of New England! I’m so excited to be a part of this community! UNH ‘26, go Wildcats!”
-Matthew Gough ’26
“I chose UNH because I graduated a semester early and they accepted me to start in the spring, and because my brother was in the forestry program. When I was about five years old, I visited, and he let me ride on the tractor with him. He also had lots of bunnies and other animals in the house he rented with other classmates in Newmarket.”
-Kristine Bowden, Alumna
“I chose UNH because it has so many opportunities for research in the environmental industry, and the campus felt like such a tight-knit community when I first visited. I’ve found my purpose here; it’ll be truly bittersweet to graduate.”
-Lauren Carita ’22
