Frequently Asked Questions
Submission of the Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) is optional for applicants to the University of New Hampshire (UNH). However, completing the STARS facilitates a more expedited review of your application, and its submission is strongly recommended. Should you choose not to provide the STARS, your application will be evaluated based on your official transcript, a process that may require additional time to complete.
At this time, the University of New Hampshire only accepts the STARS from first-year, domestic applicants. All other applicants, including international and transfer students, should submit an official high school transcript to admissions@unh.edu.
By submitting the STARS, students receive priority in the application review process, allowing us to evaluate their materials sooner. As a result, STARS submitters will be among the first to receive admission decisions during each of our weekly decision releases beginning in December.
STARS completion will appear in the applicant’s status portal (Slate) under the Application Checklist. The status of ‘Received’ indicates that UNH has received the applicant’s STARS data.
Yes, merit scholarships are awarded based on the academic information provided in the STARS. UNH recalculates each applicant’s GPA using a weighted 4.0 scale, focusing on core academic subjects such as English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language. Elective courses that fall within these core categories will also be included in the recalculated GPA. This GPA is based on the information provided in the STARS and helps us assess academic performance consistently across all applicants.
If you choose to enroll at UNH, you will be required to submit an official copy of your final high school transcript by July 1. Your transcript will be used to verify the information on your STARS.
If you need to make any updates to your STARS, please contact us at admissions@unh.edu
If you identify an error in your Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS), please promptly contact the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Admissions Office at admissions@unh.edu to facilitate the necessary corrections. It is imperative to ensure that all information submitted in your STARS is both complete and accurate, as UNH evaluates applications based on this data. Intentional misrepresentation of information within your STARS constitutes a violation of academic integrity and may result in the rescission of your admission offer and the cancellation of your academic schedule.
If you are experiencing challenges submitting your Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS), please review your responses to ensure the following fields are accurately completed:

- GPA and class rank/size; if your high school does not provide these, select "GPA not provided" or "Class rank/size not provided."
- Start and end dates for each high school attended, even if you attended only one.
