Why did you choose to transfer to the UNH College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA)?

I chose to transfer to UNH COLSA because I knew my career goals necessitated being familiar with up-and-coming research, as well as having a strong foundation in the basic sciences. UNH provides endless research opportunities for undergraduates, and I am honored to have been a part of two separate UNH research labs so far.

What was the experience of transferring to UNH like?

My experience as a transfer student thus far has been incredible. One resource that helped support me was a program called P2Bio, a once-weekly seminar that allows fellow transfer students to collaborate with each other and introduces us to the multitude of UNH resources for career, academic, and writing support.

I love the flexibility of being able to be a full-time student while also being able to drive home every night to my husband and kittens. I believe that my previous community college experience gave me strong study strategies so I could thrive at a university, which I have certainly done these past two semesters.

What is your major and what do you love about it?

My major at UNH is molecular and cellular biology. I chose this major because when I graduated from community college with my A.S. in biology, I knew I wanted to dive even deeper into the cellular processes that occur throughout living systems. I love that my major incorporates lab technique class requirements, which place students in upper-level biology laboratories that investigate interesting topics like tissue regeneration or cell phenotyping.

How is UNH preparing you to achieve your goals?

My dream is to become a primary care physician and practice in the beautiful state of New Hampshire. UNH is home to our quick-thinking and knowledgeable Pre-Health Advisor, Melissa Samaro, who has helped me prepare to achieve my medical school dreams. Because of Melissa and her team, earlier this semester, I was able to attend a pre-medical student event at my dream medical school, Geisel School of Medicine in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

What advice do you have for students who are considering transferring to UNH?

My best advice for students who are considering a UNH transfer is to network! Many professors in COLSA are familiar with one another and reaching out to one professor about a research opportunity may lead to possibilities with other professors.
