Your Physical Health

In college, you’ll be responsible for taking care of your own physical health and well-being. Whether it's primary care visits or wellness consultations on topics like nutrition or improving your sleep, a resource like UNH Health & Wellness is incredibly valuable.

Our top tips for caring for your physical self:

  • Familiarize yourself with the health and wellness services available at your college before you need them. That way, you'll know where you need to go when you need health care.
  • It’s all about balance. Find out what resources are available to you at your college and take advantage of your ability to attend programs that not only support your academic work and social life, but also your physical health.

Your Mental Health:

It’s just as important to take care of your mental well-being as it is to attend to your physical health. A resource like UNH Psychological and Counseling Services can provide you with guidance and education in a way that makes you feel comfortable and supported while managing your mental health.

Our top tips for caring for your mental health:

  • It’s okay to get help. Many college students just like yourself do so and UNH makes it easy to work on your mental health right on campus.
  • Take advantage of mental health resources offered on campus. UNH Psychological and Counseling Services offers urgent help, scheduled appointments and a variety of other resources.

Your Academic Journey:

Most college students need extra support in at least one academic area. At UNH, there are a wide variety of resources to support you when you need help in class. Academic advisors help guide you in choosing your classes and major. At the Center for Academic Resources, academic counselors and peer mentors work with you one-on-one to improve study skills, time management, organizational habits and more. The Connors Writing Center offers one-on-one appointments where you can work on writing assignments from any course.

Our top tips for putting your best academic foot forward:

  • Don’t be afraid to reach out. It’s good to be proactive and reach out for help when you feel you are beginning to struggle in a class. You are not alone and there are plenty of resources at UNH to help you.
  • Ask questions. Don’t understand an assignment or are confused about a due date? Chances are, someone else in your class is confused too. Even though you are new to college, don’t be afraid to ask for clarity.
