Deciding where to attend college is one of the biggest decisions – if not the biggest – you have had to make in your life so far. There are a lot of different factors to consider, and there are so many options. Here is why you should choose UNH:

  1. Community

It is important to find a college that has the right community for you. At UNH, we strive for equity and inclusion in all areas of the university. Whether it is in the classroom, the dining halls, or the residence halls, it is important to UNH to make the community as inclusive as possible. Not only that, but there are many resources to ensure this, such as clubs and organizations who work every day to make our community better and stronger. At UNH, the entire community supports fellow Wildcats. From academics to sports and everything in between, being a Wildcat is important to us. Walking around campus, you will pass students, faculty and staff who are all showing their UNH pride.

  1. Clubs and organizations

UNH has over 250 student clubs and organizations. These clubs bring people together around shared interests and goals related to academics, careers, hobbies, sports, outdoor adventure, food, art – and the list goes on. While there’s a club for almost anything you could think of, you are also encouraged to start your own! Joining clubs and organizations is a great way to meet new people and get involved on campus.

  1. Professional Opportunities

Professional development is crucial during your time in college, and UNH has resources to help. You can join clubs and organizations related to your studies, take courses catered toward professional development, and seek out university offices like Career and Professional Success, or CaPS, which is UNH’s dedicated career-services team. At CaPS, professional advisors can review resumes and cover letters, do mock interviews, help you search for internships and jobs, and so much more! CaPS also runs great career fairs.Whether they are specific to your major or college, or large, university-wide events, you should definitely attend! Even if you aren’t looking for a job or internship quite yet, it is great networking practice, and you can explore tons of employers and job opportunities to consider when you are ready.

  1. Dining

UNH has three dining halls, two late-night options, and multiple cafes on campus. UNH is ranked #35 in the nation for dining. The dining halls post their daily menus on the UNH app, including options for holidays and special events. There are also a number of local favorites in downtown Durham, NH, where you can find coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, Asian cuisine, health-conscious options, fast food, bagels, and so much more. You will never be bored by your dining options (or hungry) at UNH.

  1. Academics

Many students enter college with an idea of what they want to study, but that could always change once you start taking courses! It is important to read through the course catalog and the lists of programs available. If you have interests in a few areas, consider all of the different options. After choosing a major, many students add a minor or even another major once they start taking courses because they were exposed to new things they never considered. You don’t need to come in with one major and hold yourself to it for all four years; you can always change, add or alter your plan! Take advantage of the variety of different and unique courses available, because you never know what you might learn or become interested in.

  1. Location

If you’re someone who enjoys going to the beach or out to dinner, you want to make sure you can still do the things you love while at school! At UNH, we’re surrounded by tons of things to do. UNH is located 30 minutes from the ocean, one hour from skiing and the mountains, one hour by train to either Boston, MA or Portland, ME, and 15 minutes from Portsmouth, where you can take the UNH bus to shop or go out to eat! Not only that, but on campus we have College Woods, which consists of 250 acres of woods and walking/hiking trails. We also are located in downtown Durham, where there are shops, restaurants, hair salons, and other local businesses.

Those are my top six reasons why you should enroll! The UNH community is excited to welcome you as a fellow Wildcat!
