The mechanics of a breakthrough
What does a mechanical engineering major have to do with the future of human health? For Oscany, a NH BioMade Transfer Scholar, the answer is: a lot. She’s particularly interested in biomaterials, which are used for everything from making joint replacements to healing injured tissues. As an intern at UNH’s John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center, she studies how the principles of mechanical engineering can benefit the use of biomaterials in modern medicine. She does so by working with a robotic arm on plasma cutting – or what she calls “cutting with lightning.”
