1. Choosing a Major

"I ended up choosing neuroscience as a major because I was super interested in human behavior and how people work. I knew I loved science."

2. Becoming a Certified Scuba Diver

"I took a course in basic scuba and it was so cool. Now I'm a certified scuba diver and I can go anywhere."

3. Learning to Go with the Flow

"The past four years at UNH have definitely shaped me a lot. I think I've always been a person that wants everything to be planned out and go exactly as I've planned it. I've realized that's not how life goes. I always wanted to be a physician. Now, I am leaning more toward clinical psychology or public health."

4. Working a Hands-On Internship for Social Change

"I think a lot of people don't know about all of the opportunities to get involved in hands-on experiences at UNH. I did a Semester for Impact, where you do social innovation work at an internship in New Hampshire."

5. Dissecting a Sheep Brain

"I remember when we cut open a sheep brain for the first time. I got to hold it in my hands and look at all the parts of it. It was the first time I realized that our brains are really what's making us tick."

6. Attending UNH Hockey Games

"I love hockey, so being able to go and see very high-level hockey games is super cool. The camaraderie there is great, and the fish toss is really funny."

7. Walking in College Woods

"I love College Woods. It's a great way to get outside. I love a hike, and College Woods is the closest thing you can get to that when you're still in Durham."

8. Researching Abroad in Denmark

"I studied abroad and did research in Denmark with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. I was in Copenhagen for just over two months. I was very fortunate to be selected by this professor who does MRI research on depression populations. I think that's probably the type of thing I'm interested in more than anything."

9. Doing My Capstone Research Course

"I did my capstone with this research course, which was a communication sciences and disorders course about the neural basis of cognition and language. It was super cool to learn a lot about aphasia and stroke patients. It was a research-based course, which I enjoyed since doing things hands-on is my favorite."

10. Finding Close Friends

"I kind of stumbled upon my friends. It started when I was in Portsmouth with Kate, my only friend at the time. And then Emily, my research partner, and her boyfriend, Christian, were also in Portsmouth. The four of us ended up hanging out and driving home. We went to the cow barns and hung out with the cows for a bit together and then the four of us just became fast friends and started hanging out all the time."
