Why did you start the UNH Fashion Club?

At the beginning of the year, I came to UNH as a transfer student. I, along with the club's president, Sam Verdi, noticed that there was no fashion club at UNH. We ran with Sam’s vision for a club that emphasized sustainable fashion, focusing on sourcing and creating sustainable clothing in the modern era of fast fashion.

What is it like having a leadership role in the organization?

I am the vice president of the UNH Fashion Club. Creating and running the club allows me to help craft the vision for the group and organize events that cater to what I know students like: cheap, cool clothes for a good price.

What activities or events does your group have throughout the year?

So far, we have had our MUB Underground event, where we featured seven local vendors who source secondhand clothing, repair it and give it a second life. With this success, we have planned another event, the UNH Capital Vintage Bag Sale. This event is a fun opportunity to get a lot of new and old clothes on a college budget. You buy a bag and get to dig through 2,000 pounds of vintage clothes and fill your bag with as much as you can fit inside. On the horizon, we are looking forward to makerspaces, where students can create and customize clothing to their style and forums with people in the fashion community, from personal stylists of the stars to executives at brand-name companies.

What is your favorite memory from being part of your organization?

My favorite memory so far is seeing the outreach we made at the MUB Underground event. Students were able to find beautiful and cool clothing that they might not have ever found if it wasn’t for the community we have created and our collaboration with the local New Hampshire vintage community.

What is the coolest part about being a member of your club?

The coolest part of being part of the UNH Fashion Club for me is the community of people who are invested and interested in personal style. Coming into the club, I did not know half as much about fashion and styling as I do now. We love to lift each other up and give advice on how anyone can be involved in the group at any commitment level.

Why should students join your club?

Joining the UNH Fashion Club is a small commitment where you can get whatever you want from the experience, whether that's learning about the industry, learning how to plan events or just getting the inside scoop about upcoming events and opportunities.
