UNH shines throughout all four seasons. With temperatures dropping and the anticipation of the holidays and winter break coming up, there is so much to love about winter as a Wildcat.
We polled our UNH students to ask about their favorite winter traditions on campus. From sledding and snowboarding down Library Hill, to open skate time and a decadent winter dinner, here are our students’ favorite UNH winter traditions and events.
Holiday skating at the Whitt
UNH students love anticipating the holidays by skating at the Whittemore Center! Choose from the “open skate” option for ice skating with friends or “stick and puck” to hone your hockey skills. Skates are available for rental for $5 and hockey helmets are available to be borrowed.

Snowboarding and sledding down Library Hill
Our students agree that there’s no study break or weekend activity quite like taking a snowboard or a sled to the slopes of Library Hill on campus. Be a kid again and take advantage of the first big snowfall on our campus!
Making hot cocoa
Our students love making a warm cup of hot chocolate in their residence hall or in one of our dining halls. Once the temperature starts to drop, nothing warms you up like a hot beverage between classes or study sessions!
Winter Celebration Dinner
Craving even more hot chocolate? Our students get to enjoy special foods with friends like a hot chocolate bar, spinach artichoke dip, seafood scampi and chocolate fudge at the Winter Celebration Dinner! The dinner will start at 4:30 p.m. at Holloway Commons and Philbrook dining halls this Weds. 12/6!
Wildcats hockey
UNH students love cheering on their home team during an upbeat hockey game at the Whitt. The Dec. 9 game will even feature a teddy bear toss, where fans toss new stuffed animals to be donated to charity onto the ice.
