Congratulations, Wildcat – you’ve made it to campus and you’re ready to start off a great first year. Here are some helpful apps to have handy as you navigate your first few weeks on campus!

UNH mobile apps

#1
UNH Mobile App
Start with the most important, the UNH mobile app! It’s helpful for bus schedules, dining menus and campus maps. Take it from us – we have a whole blog post dedicated to it here!

#2
Outlook
Download the Outlook app to check all your student emails. I downloaded the app my first week at UNH, and it made getting settled and ready for classes so much easier. If you haven’t set up your student email yet, check out this page for help logging in to WildcatsMail. I recommend turning on Outlook notifications to stay on top of important emails about classes, events and opportunities on campus.

#3
Canvas
Speaking of classes, the Canvas app will be your go-to. Each of your courses will have a dedicated Canvas page, where you’ll submit assignments, review a new syllabus, find resources and even communicate with a professor or a classmate. (Pro tip: some profs prefer you reach out through the Canvas messaging feature, while others prefer email. Double check your syllabus for their preferred method of communication). I recommended signing up for the Canvas weekly report, which sends you an email at the end of each week about any course activity you may have missed. Save yourself from stressing about any deadlines!

#4
Handshake
Another app that will be important to your UNH journey is Handshake. Our Career and Professional Success (CaPS) office uses this online platform to help connect UNH students to their next opportunity. It’s like Indeed, but with job and internship listing just for Wildcats. You can filter your search as well, which makes it easier to find what you’re looking for, from an on-campus job to a summer internship in Boston. (Pro tip: Use Handshake to find great part-time and/or work-study jobs on campus at places like the dining halls or the gym. Be sure to get a head start since these jobs get filled quickly at the beginning of the semester). You can also use Handshake to set up an appointment with CaPS, learn about upcoming career events and even connect you to alumni in your field.

#5
Kanopy
The apps above will definitely help you stay organized in the new school year, but it’s also important to have fun! Something I had never heard of before coming to UNH is the streaming service Kanopy, which has tons of cool films and documentaries that aren’t on Netflix. It’s one of the many online resources the UNH Library makes available to students, so it’s free to use if you login with your UNH credentials!

Now you’re ready to start off your year in Durham. Take advantage of your many student resources for a great first year!
