Every UNH student should experience each of these 5 campus events at least once during their four years here.

1)
Bingo night at the MUB:
One of the many events hosted at the Memorial Union Building – we call our student union “the MUB” – is bingo night. It is hosted by one of our student organization, the Campus Activities Board. Bingo is one of the most popular events on campus, and each night features a different amazing theme – from meme bingo to sustainability bingo. If you win, you can get an awesome prize that correlates with that night’s theme. For example, you could win tickets to a local haunted hayride at the Halloween bingo night. If there’s a tie, the event gets even more exciting. The two people who are tied for first place have to go on stage and do some sort of competition – from dancing to trivia – to determine the winner.

2)
Hockey game at the Whitt:
Every student should attend a hockey game at the Whittemore Center. Hockey is one of our most popular sports at UNH. The student section is always crowded and has so much school pride. Blue and white just fills the bleachers. One of our UNH traditions also happens during hockey games. When UNH scores its first goal, we throw a fish onto the ice. A student in a yellow suit slides out onto the ice, grabs the fish, and waves it in the air. This hypes up the student section and is an overall great experience. FYI, the University of Maine is our top rival.

3)
Homecoming
On the topic of sports, Homecoming is another event all students should experience during their time here at UNH. It is a time for family to come to campus and watch our football team, as well as celebrate at Boulder Field. When I went to my first homecoming game, I saw people passing around chalk and soon learned that this was for the chalk toss, another fun UNH tradition. You’ll see everyone throwing chalk up in the air, which makes a huge white cloud over the student section. The next thing you know everyone is covered in white chalk.

4)
Concerts
Concerts are one of my favorite events that we have at UNH. There’s a student organization that plans and hosts the concerts on campus called SCOPE, which stands for the Student Committee on Popular Entertainment. In the past, we’ve had T-Pain, A$AP Ferg, Playboi Carti and more perform on campus. During the pandemic, SCOPE adapted creatively and kept on providing fun entertainment. For example, they hosted a Zoom Q&A with Pete Davidson, the Saturday Night Live. Concerts in general are always a fun time, but concerts at UNH are better because you can go with all your friends and dance to the music.

5)
University Day (a.k.a UDay)
University Day, also known as UDay, is an event that UNH holds in early fall. All the student clubs and organizations – there are more than 250! – come onto campus to present themselves to all of UNH. You get to grab free t-shirts, frisbees, pens, cups, and more from different organizations. Students go around booth to booth, hear about the different clubs, and sign up if they are interested. On Main Street, we also have UNH Catering Services making us hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, and vegan options. It is just a fun time to be outside on our beautiful campus exploring UNH’s many different clubs with your friends.
