Making Waves

Olivia Dube’s passion for ocean engineering started on a sailboat (she was also a member of UNH’s sailing team). Her fascination with how such a simple machine could navigate something as vast as the ocean prompted her life’s work. And there’s really no place to study ocean engineering like UNH, with our world-renowned institutes dedicated to studying the ocean right on campus – like the Chase Ocean Engineering Lab (the wave tank is Dube’s favorite spot on campus) and the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping, where she interned her sophomore year. After building a 3D map to study coastal erosion in real-time as part of a UNH research initiative, she landed a job working on sonar and sensor technology at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
