Wildcat 101! First-Year Student Programs

June Orientation

June Orientation sessions offer a great way to learn everything you need to know before you arrive on campus in the fall. You will have the chance to meet with an adviser to plan your fall course schedule, get your identification card, and learn more about the University of New Hampshire than you ever imagined possible in two days! Your parents are invited to join you as well. (Don’t worry: they will have their own schedule and will even attend a “Letting Go” workshop with parents of current students who have learned that letting go is possible!)

The dates for Orientation for June of 2008 are:

June 2-3, 5-6, 9-10, 13, 16-17, 19-20

Thompson School Orientation dates:

June 5-6, 13, 19-20

Starting the third week in April, after you have paid your enrollment deposit, you may register for a June orientation session. If you do not receive an orientation postcard by May 15, please call the Orientation Office at 603-862-3488.

Wildcat Days

Wildcat Days, which all first-year students participate in, prepares you to begin your university experience. Typically occurring three days before classes begin, they coincide with move-in for residence hall students. During Wildcat Days, you meet with faculty in your academic program and get to know your way around campus, while having a great time in your residence hall, the Memorial Union Building and elsewhere on campus. Look for more information about Wildcat Days in mid-August.

CONNECT program

If you are a multicultural student starting at UNH this fall, CONNECT is the program for you! Participants move in to campus just prior to Wildcat Days. The program creates a welcoming, friendly, and supportive environment and “connects” students of color to current UNH students, faculty, and staff, as well as campus and University resources. The career component of CONNECT provides resume critique workshops, job shadow and internship opportunities, and career coaching events throughout your undergraduate years. You will be notified of program dates by July. Please contact Meir Perry at 603-862-2221 for more information.

PRoVES—Pre-Orientation Volunteer Experience in Service

UNH PRoVES introduces you to a proud student tradition at UNH—community service leadership. A week before classes begin, participants move into their assigned residence hall. Everybody takes part in a daylong leadership and team-building session, followed by four days of service experience in the UNH area. Learn more or apply at: www.unh.edu/proves.
