General Transfer Policy

For credit to transfer from another college or university, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Coursework must be completed at an institution fully accredited by a regional association of schools and colleges.
  2. Course grade must be a minimum of “C”, or its equivalent.
  3. Course may not be remedial or vocational in nature or taken as part of a certificate program.
  4. Mathematics coursework must be at the Pre-Calculus level, or higher, to transfer. No credit is awarded for mathematics courses which duplicate high school level Algebra or below. Credit is awarded for Finite Mathematics and/or Statistics courses.
  5. To receive credit for elementary level foreign language coursework, a student could not have completed two or more years of study in the same language during high school.
  6. To receive credit from College Board Advanced Placement Examinations or College Level Examination Program, have official scores sent to the Admissions Office for review and possible credit award.
  7. The maximum credit accepted in transfer from all external (non-UNH) sources
    • 96 semester hours towards a bachelor’s degree
    • 48 semester hours towards an associate degree
    • 64 semester hours from associate level coursework (this restriction does not apply to associate degree programs at UNH-Manchester or the Thompson School of Applied Science)
  8. All students must attain the last one-fourth of their credits toward the degree in residence (32 credits for a baccalaureate and 16 credits for an associate degree) unless granted permission by the Academic Standards and Advising Committee to transfer part of this work from other accredited institutions.
